Grant Hermes

Trial Attorney, Orange County Native, Endurance Athlete

I am a personal injury trial attorney based in Orange County with over a decade of experience. Before starting my own practice, I was the managing partner for nine years at Knypstra Hermes & Zermeno LLP in Newport Beach, where I trained under a partner who was a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a Board-Certified Trial Specialist, and a graduate of Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College.

The firm intentionally maintained a selective caseload and prepared every case for trial, taking 1–3 cases to jury trial each year. The result was more than $38 million recovered, including a confidential eight-figure settlement and multiple seven-figure recoveries—not through high-volume settlements, but through aggressive, trial-focused advocacy. We didn’t chase volume. We prepared cases for trial. That’s why the results came.

My background is unique: I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from UC Santa Barbara, and before law school I worked as an accountant managing large-scale commercial properties. I earned my Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School, graduating summa cum laude. That foundation allows me to break down complex injury claims, understand financial damages, and structure cases to maximize recovery.

I personally handle every aspect of my clients’ cases—from pre-litigation through trial and, when necessary, appeal. No handoffs. No layers of associates.

Outside of the courtroom, I am an avid cyclist, trail runner, and backpacker. I spend as much time as I can in the Sierras and on the roads and trails throughout Orange County. That is where I connect with my clients—not just in an office, but in the environments where these incidents actually happen. It also means I understand, firsthand, what is taken from someone when a driver’s negligence injures a cyclist, runner, or pedestrian.

Endurance Sports Taught Me How to Practice Law

My outdoor lifestyle—cycling, trail running, spending long days in the mountains—shapes how I approach litigation. Endurance sports teach focus, patience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. They teach you to manage discomfort, adapt when things go wrong, and keep moving forward.

Those same skills apply to complex litigation. Persistence and preparation often make the difference between a good result and a great one.

The outdoors also keeps me grounded. It reminds me why I do this work—helping people rebuild after a setback, find their footing again, and move forward with confidence. Whether it is on the trail or in the courtroom, I bring that same mindset: steady, strategic, and committed from start to finish.

What Makes Me Different

1. Direct Access

You work directly with me—not paralegals, case managers, or assistants. I personally handle your case from start to finish. No handoffs. No marketing fluff. Just aggressive representation focused on your recovery.

2. Trial-Ready Preparation

I prepare every case as if it is going to trial. While 95% of personal injury cases settle before trial, this strategy creates leverage and pressure that maximizes your recovery. Insurance companies do not want to gamble on a courtroom loss—they want certainty.

3. Results-Driven Strategy

I do not chase quick settlements. I build your case thoroughly, coordinate your medical treatment, document everything, and negotiate from a position of strength. My background in business and accounting means I understand complex injury calculations and financial damages.

My Approach to Your Case

Direct, individualized, and focused on results.

Step 1: Get You the Right Treatment

Your health comes first. I connect you with trusted doctors and specialists who understand trauma and document your injuries in a way insurance companies expect. A proper treatment plan supports your recovery—and forms the foundation of your legal case.

Step 2: Build Airtight Evidence

I secure every piece of documentation: accident reports, photos, witness statements, medical records, insurance correspondence, and financial documentation. This evidence is not just paperwork—it is the backbone of your case.

Step 3: Negotiate from Strength

Insurance companies try to minimize claims. I prepare every case as if it is going to trial because insurance companies fear a trial attorney. They would rather settle pre-litigation or before trial with certainty than gamble on a jury verdict. This pressure creates leverage and changes how they negotiate, leading to stronger results for you.

Step 4: You Focus on Recovery

Throughout the process, I keep you informed, answer your questions directly, and handle every step personally. Your job is to heal. Mine is to fight for your full compensation.

What My Clients Say

I Specialize in Three Core Practice Areas

Each with deep expertise and genuine personal connection.

Auto Accidents

Auto
Accidents

Whether you were a driver, passenger, or bystander, a serious car crash disrupts everything—your health, work, finances, and future. The first hours and days matter most. Medical treatment, documentation, and early strategy define how your case unfolds.

I approach every auto accident with precision and purpose—focused on facts, preparation, and results.

Bicycle Accidents

Bicycle
Accidents

I am not just a lawyer who handles cycling cases—I am a cyclist who represents injured riders. I have spent years training on the same roads and trails across Orange County that many of my clients ride every day. I understand what it means to clip in, to navigate traffic, and to trust that drivers will share the road.

When that trust is broken, I take it personally.

Pedestrian & Running Accidents

As a runner and endurance athlete, I know the risks you face—distracted drivers, narrow shoulders, blind corners. When a car hits a runner or pedestrian, the injuries can be devastating. You need more than just a personal injury lawyer; you need someone who truly understands what you have lost.

I handle every case with the focus and persistence that endurance sports teach.
